Work for Us

Welcome to Blackbird Farming

Harvest Workers

Help us bring in the harvest and apply to pick cherries, apples and pears. You will work on the farm in groups, and all tasks involve manual work including lifting, bending and twisting.

The important stuff

Money

We endeavour make earnings very competitive. However, for reasons of crop, weather and demand, work cannot always be promised. Pickers are paid either an hourly rate or on a piecework basis. On piecework the more you do, the more you can earn. Good pickers will earn considerably more than the National Minimum Wage. Holiday pay is accrued for each day worked and is paid at the end of your employment

Accommodation

We can provide accommodation if required, currently charged at £49 per week (Oct 2018). With no additional bills such as heating or electric to pay, while you are working for us, your outgoings will be low and your ability to save greater.

We have two hostels. These consist of bunkhouses and converted buildings, with shower and toilet blocks and kitchens to prepare your own meals. There are communal areas with WiFi so you can keep in touch with home.

We will take you to a supermarket one afternoon per week for your food shopping, so no need to bring your own car.

Health & Safety

Ultimately you are responsible (it’s a legal obligation) to take reasonable care for your own safety and that of others around you.

You will be given all the information and training that is necessary for you to perform your work and make your stay with us enjoyable.
